Sparky (Story 6)

My parents got divorced when I was 7 years old. My dad managed to get the judge to place a court order against having a dog. During my childhood, I always dreamed of having a furry friend. I envied people who had dogs. I would imagine that my stuffed animals were real, until one day, in high school, my mom brought home, Sparky, the cutest, fluffiest, poodle! I finally got to experience what it was like to have a best friend with four legs. I started telling people, I love how I know what Sparky is saying even though he can't talk to me. He became part of the family, he is my third brother. My mom even likes to say he is her favorite child because he never talks back LOL. I love Sparky, he changed my life forever. I don't see him any different than other four-legged animals: horses, cows, pigs, goats, etc. I would NEVER eat my dog, so why would I eat other four-legged animals? I hope by sharing this story with you, you learn something about me, who I am, and why I am a vegan today. If you're feeling brave or vulnerable, or just want to make a new friend, please leave a comment below, sharing something about yourself, so I can get to know you too!

You are so right! Makes me think of what Philip Wollen says “A pig is a dog is a bear is a boy.” There should be no difference between one animal or another – all know the difference between pleasure and pain. I saw a campaign sign (I think it was from Mercy for Animals) that said “Why love one and eat the other?” There was a picture of a cute piglet and a puppy dog.

Keep doing what you’re doing, Taryn! You are an inspiration to many!
